Meet the Chinese Artists Of This Extraordinary Collection Of Contemporary And Classic Calligraphy
Illahe Studios and Gallery is the hub of a historic assemblage of art work from China, combining classic and contemporary calligraphy from China with traditional bronze sculpture. These exhibits are the artistic face of the Southern Oregon – China Tourism, Investment and Education Conference taking place June 2-5, 2011. This is a unique opportunity to meet the artists and purchase an original work of art.
Original works of internationally known Calligrapher, Mr Ma Weihua will be displayed at Illahe Studios and Gallery through the month of June, with a special opening to coincide with the First Friday Art Walk on June 3. Also opening on First Friday in June is an exhibit of calligraphic works by the well-known Chinese artist Alok Hsu Kwang-han at Bohemia Framery and Fine Art.
For the 2011 Conference, Southern Oregon China Connection has invited Mr. Ma Weihua, a well-known Chinese calligrapher, to attend the conference and bring examples of his current work for display and sale. His calligraphy arts have been presented on different materials in different ways from paper to wood, bamboo, china and stone. Mr. Ma participated in national and international artist events and won many awards such as “World Well Known Artist in China”, “National Reward of France” and an award from the French Artist Association. Keeping the calligraphy practice for 40 years, Mr. Ma has explored the styles of different times and moved forward with the development of Chinese characters. In the recent years, Mr. Ma has focused on the interactive relationship between calligraphy styles and Chinese character development, and the combination of art forms and the Chinese language.

Nearby, in Ashland's Historic Railroad District, at Bohemia Framery and Fine Art, on A Street, an extraordinary exhibit of contemporary calligraphic work will be presented by the Artist Alok Hsu Kwang-han through June. He is an internationally celebrated and highly original Zen calligraphic artist whose paintings are a striking synthesis of the beauty of Chinese calligraphy, the spontaneity and simplicity of Zen, as well as the evolution of Western psychotherapy. These paintings are like Zen gates -- entering the paintings we "come home" to ourselves.
This is a rare opportunity to meet the artist and create a bridge between cultures. Meet this exceptional Chinese artist and view the works at the First Friday Art Walk June 3rd from 5-8pm at Illahe Studio and Gallery, 215 Fourth St. Ashland, Oregon and throughout the month. Take home a piece of art history and a contemporary treasure for your own enjoyment.
