Our February exhibit celebrates human artistry, joy and connection. Goly Ostovar’s collection of colorful mixed media paintings,” Eat Play Love,” depict Persian motifs and themes that transcend cultural boundaries. “Persian memories and imagery continue to inspire me and serve as my muse. Images of ordinary moments like eating a handful of cherries, sharing a cup of tea with a friend, or playing music in the moonlight, evoke a sense of joy, connection, and nostalgia for me.” Duane Sample’s, “Mosaic Melodies,” portray the figures and faces of dancers and classical opera singers in his dynamic large-scale mosaic panels. The visual arts, classical music, dance and opera have long been his food for the soul. “I love to show movement in this medium; because movement is life itself.”

Jacksonville, Oregon mosaic artist Duane Sample has a deep appreciation for the beauty of human artistry in all its forms. He turned back to mosaic work in 1995 after a hiatus of about 10 years. “My admiration of mosaic artists of our distant past, who created extremely detailed works of wondrous colors and astounding likenesses of religious and royal beings, inspired me to continue my varied art career as a mosaicist.” In addition to his large scale mosaic murals, Duane creates mosaic vases, urns and mandalas. Mandala is the Sanskrit word for circle. He notes that both mandala art and the mosaic media are ancient art forms which can be found in many diverse cultures.

Goly Ostovar has been involved in the arts since childhood and has been a resident of Ashland for over thirty years. Goly has had many solo and group art exhibits, has earned awards and acceptance in juried exhibitions, and her paintings are in many private collections. Teaching art at Ashland High School occupied her time for 15 years, and currently she devotes her time to art, travel, and learning new skills in all aspects of life.
